Beyond Black Friday

Yes – it’s that time of year again where shopping season is upon us and some of us are eager to get the best deals out there right now, but really, where do you start? Black Friday just passed but we have Cyber Monday coming up, as well as ongoing sales you should be aware of – for gifting or for yourself. If you’re not much of a shopper or aren’t in a position to be doing much shopping, there’s nothing wrong with that at all. Feel free to share this with a friend or two, because there are some great initiatives going on.

I also want to add that I’m not trying to encourage senseless shopping. It’s nice to pick up great quality pieces here and there for good prices, but I’m personally not a huge fan of large shopping hauls so that’s not what I’m getting at here. I’ve done it before and you tend to appreciate everything less, and ultimately, you’re left with a bunch of stuff. I’ve been trying to be a little more sustainable nowadays, so for every new piece I get, I donate an older garment I no longer wear. It’s a small step in trying to downsize and reduce clutter!

I’m going to keep this short and sweet – since many of you want to get right down to what’s going on. I’ve compiled a list of only 3 places – because although there is a lot out there, I think these are worth your while.

A variety of incredible deals

The Toronto Premium Outlets has been a great destination for good deals for a few years now, but this time of year, it’s even better. I had a chance to go last week (before the madness) and the sales were already exceptional. They’re supposed to go on beyond Black Friday, which gives you the opportunity to take advantage of great prices on great things even after the crazyness. It’s worth mentioning that due to the variety of shops there, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and have an idea as to what you want. As a testament to the above, I managed to snag a great deal on two J.Crew jackets (shown in the image above) for unbelievable prices. They had an extra 50% off everything in store, so uhh yeah. It was good.

A different way to shop

Some of my favorite brands are doing things a little different this year. If you’re in the giving mood, there’s no better time to capitalize on the opportunity. While you’re picking something up for yourself, you’re also helping make a difference in someone’s life.

New Balance is doing a philanthropic initiative tomorrow. Instead of your typical Cyber Monday door-crasher type deals, with every purchase made on NewBalance.ca on Monday, November 27 from 12:01am to 11:59pm, New Balance Canada will donate 1 pair of shoes to child through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. Not only does it justify your purchase of a new sneaker, but it enables someone else to feel great as well. Giving back is always in style!

Another great brand, Kotn is also doing something philanthropic. In 2017, they built a school in the Nile Delta for 33 children, and this Black Friday weekend, Kotn wants to do it again. For the next 2 days, 100% of the proceeds from every single order both online and in-store will be invested into things like laptops, school supplies, roads, school infrastructure, and instructor training. (You can head to their website to shop and watch a short video featuring thefirst school)
