Exploring Sephora from a Male’s Perspective

For many years I have walked by Sephora without batting an eyelid. If I did ever walk in, I would feel out of place and a little awkward – because I felt that there was no need for me to be there. Yes, I knew that Sephora did carry men’s products such as cologne and lotions, but it never appealed to me as a male consumer. To be completely fair, the crowd of consumers within the store are mostly female, so I’m not surprised why many guys don’t go there. In all honesty, it’s a tad bit intimidating. Even if there are guys inside, there isn’t as much as you’d expect – either guys who know/or are well-educated about beauty and skin care, or boyfriends/husbands just sulking around while their girlfriend/wife picks out their own products.

Many guys are in the same boat as me though. We automatically think of Sephora as the destination for females and makeup, which is not entirely correct. Although Sephora predominantly caters to that niche, there are in fact many things that regular guys, like myself, can really benefit from. I decided to step out of my comfort zone a little while back and give this brand a chance to see if there was anything I could add to my skin care and (for the lack of a better term) beauty arsenal. Keep in mind that I have been getting into skin care and aesthetic maintenance over the past year, so I may have a bit of a head start in terms of comfort. I have to mention that it has also opened up my mind to interesting products and practices. But as a quick TL;DR: and from a completely unbiased perspective: it’s a little hard for a guy to waltz in and know what to pick out from Sephora.

So I’ve decided to make it a little easier for gents trying to work their way into shopping for beauty and skin care products. It’s really not as bad as you might think, it just takes some courage and willingness to try something new. I also know for a fact that most males can really benefit from taking this step. In fact, based on this study done in Sweden, men tend to improve self-confidence through taking care of themselves via skin care products and practices. I’ve compiled a list of a few products that can be used by any guy and can be picked up from Sephora, online or in store.

Bear in mind that these are recommendations of my own, but there is a large variety of other products that may suit you better.
