Last year, two gentlemen, Lance Chung and Sharad Mohan launched an event series in Toronto, which brought together many guys from different communities into one setting. And the purpose was simple: create new opportunities and foster relationships while relaxing, hanging out and walking away with new knowledge and friends. I was fortunate enough to attend this year’s event, and it really was something else.
This is a little exciting to me, because I’ve never done anything like this before. With an ‘athleisure’ dress code, everyone casually came together under one roof at Her Majesty’s Pleasure (556 King St W) and simply had a good time. I met many great guys that were an inspiration to me, and it felt so easy to get to know them due to the fact that everyone was in sweats and simply ‘hanging out’. Small things like that can go such a long way!
In addition to that, there were some exciting things going on that everyone was able to take advantage of. Health and wellness expert, Lisa Holowaychuk of Life By Leese, educated us with a health seminar by creating nutritional smoothies and face masks using ingredients that anyone can find at home! It was also thrilling to have lululemon introduce looks from The Local (96 Ossington), a men’s focused shop that just recently opened up and has a personal way of dealing with your style!
Furthermore, the location made all the difference. Having a group of guys get together at Her Majesty’s Pleasure was super cool. Although it’s usually regarded as a ‘salon/spa/cocktail bar for women’ (I say that with quotations because many guys simply won’t go to these kind of places), it really was great for a bunch of dudes. A lot of guys, including myself, don’t find the need to go to such settings – simply because: we’re boys (and apparently we don’t ever need some TLC). In opposition to that idea, it reminded me that there really is nothing wrong with pampering yourself every once in a while. And yes. I preach this constantly when it comes to skincare, but even I need to keep myself in check. It felt great getting a much needed pedicure and sitting down in a laissez-faire environment. Why can’t there be more events like this?
Overall, It was a great success and I am really looking forward to next year already! A huge thank you to Sharad and Lance!
