Off Road Muscle: Are Two Better Than Four?

There’s something about ripping a scar in mother earth that makes you feel alive with power. The symphony of horsepower roaring through the woods and up the hills of the countryside is something we must all enjoy. But most importantly we must all do. You should enjoy more off-roading sports because it’s not just the challenge of going fast on the off-beaten track but it’s the skill that keeping your composure requires. That’s perhaps why we love rally car drivers just as much as Formula One drivers. We know they don’t go anywhere near as fast, but they tear around corners literally going sideways. So if off-roading is looking tempting to you, you have to ask yourself one question. Are two wheels better than four? If the best of the best off-roading talented drivers use four, surely that means you must too? Well if you want speed and mobility then you need two. If you want more handling and a slightly easier learning curve then you require four. Where do they each shine best?

Traversing the desert dunes

One of the most famous and challenging races of all time is of course the Dakar Rally. It’s held every year and sees offroad drivers and bikers test their skills out in the desert. If you have ever watched this race you know that although the cars may have the crown when it comes to the dirt roads that twist around mountains. The motocross bikes have them beat hands down when it comes to zooming up giant sand dunes and thundering back down again. Hence why you should consider an off road motorcycle for your trip to a sandy environment next. Honda quite clearly has a worldwide famous reputation for making some of the best motorbikes ever. It’s not just MotoGP where they dominate, but in the offroad market too. Consider the CRF150R if you’re just starting off. It’s a very small displacement and won’t cause many shocks. However if you want pure power then consider the CRF250RX or the CRF450R.

Chopping up a field

One of the most iconic episodes of Top Gear was when the three presenters were introduced to some off road buggies. Don’t picture a beach buggy that’s a very rounded shape and doesn’t go very fast. These monsters were low to the ground, open cockpit and open wheeled. They have small engines but were either turbo or supercharged. The buggies themselves weighing just under or just over half a ton, they could accelerate through mud and fields rapidly. If this is something you would like to experience then consider the Rage line. There are many like this buggy but is something that is right at the top end of the spectrum. They’re also called dirt buggies or dirt rats. They have the same concept and come in different engines sizes from V4, V6 to V8s.

If you’re looking for some off road muscle, consider getting yourself one of the dirt bikes from the latest line up that Honda has to offer. If you’d rather stick with more grip and ease of use, then try out the dirt buggies such as the Rage company.
