Simple sustainability (loving our planet doesn’t have to be complicated)

Every one of us can do simple things to help ensure the wellbeing of our planet. It’s also important for us to consider what we leave behind for our future generations. I’ll be providing some simple tips we can all implement into our day to day lives.

Swap to reusable products

Most of us know that there is an overwhelming problem with plastic waste. Indeed, it is filling up our oceans, harming wildlife, and leaching toxic chemicals into our ecosystem. The good news is that it is possible to reduce this issue by limiting the amount of plastic that we dispose of. What this means is swapping to sustainable, options such as reusable razors and straws.

The good news is that doing so will have very little impact on your experience using such products. In fact, in many cases, the reusable options are built to a better quality because they are designed to last. Something that means it couldn’t be simpler to save the planet!

Consider how you use and maintain your car

CO2 emissions from the vehicles we drive are one of the biggest contributors to global warming there is! With that in mind, making changes to when and how we use and maintain cars is vital if we are to safeguard the planet.

Of course, the best-case scenario would be if we all stopped driving tomorrow and walked and biked everywhere instead. Unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen, partly because of the convenience of being able to drive, and the way that our society is centered around using vehicles.

However, just because we cannot give up driving altogether, doesn’t mean we can’t cut down on the journeys we make. In fact, doing so is better for us physically, and financially as well as helping the environment.

Making sure that the vehicles we do drive are as eco-friendly as possible is another important aspect of being an environmentally responsible driver. After all, if your exhaust isn’t fitted with a Catalytic converter or is faulty you could be pouring out far more CO2 into the atmosphere than is necessary.

Of course, there are some maintenance tasks that we can easily complete ourselves. Although, dealing with catalytic converters is not one of them. Instead, it is much better to let an automotive exhaust specialist fit or repair our convertor. The reason being that they are a very specialized piece of equipment that must be afforded the respect it is due if they are to function for the good of the environment.

Get a home energy meter

You know what they say – what doesn’t get measured, doesn’t get managed and indeed that is the logic behind a home energy meter. After all, if you are keeping track of how much you use you will have a much better idea not only of your overall consumption but also where your energy is going. Something that means you can make changes in your life to address this where necessary.

For example, if you find that you are using a lot of energy in heating your home, it may lead you to increase the insulation you have in your walls and roof. This should help keep the warmer air from escaping, and so lead you to use less energy.
