Sustainable Driving: Is It Possible For The Mass Market?

This question might have different answers depending on who you ask. But the fact of the matter is that we’ll be looking at a world devoid of gas-guzzling cars in the future. Still, we have to create that future as soon as possible if we want to stop damaging our planet any more than we already have. Cars are only one part of the bigger picture, of course, but it’s a good place to start. There are over 1 billion cars in the world, after all. It’s no surprise that the environment is massively impacted by all of those vehicles combined. But will the world ever really change? Will we ever truly go “green” when it comes to driving? Well, let’s talk about some of the changes that are currently being made and that could be made in the future.

It starts with drivers.

For starters, there’s a lot that can be done on an individual level to reduce environmental damage. This isn’t news to any of us, but we all doubt the impact we can have. Think about the recent surge in veganism, for example. Millions of people have stopped eating animal products, and the numbers keep growing. Every individual person might not appreciate their influence, but that’ll have a massive effect on the environmentally-damaging meat and dairy industry. The same goes for driving. Consumers don’t have to give up their cars to make a difference. They just need to think about the way in which they drive.

Driving cautiously is more economical for your back pocket and the environment. Plus, it’ll put you at a lower risk of accidents. Of course, if you do end up in a road incident then you might want to call an accident lawyer to help. It’s always important to be prepared for car accidents. But the best way to achieve this is to drive safely. Don’t slam on the accelerator or the brake pedal. You’ll protect yourself and the environment. Additionally, you might want to set yourself a rule that you’ll only drive if it’s a journey that’ll take more than 10 minutes. Otherwise, it can be walked.

The technology is already here.

We all talk about electric cars as if they’re the future, but the future is already here. Electric cars are already readily available on the market. You already have the power to buy one as a consumer. Rather than waiting for diesel cars to die out in the future before you purchase a more economical and sustainable car, why not make the decision to buy one today? It’s possible for greener cars to become widespread in the mass market if the mass market accepts this technology. As demand increases, so will supply. And prices will drop as a result. It’s simple economics.

Collaboration is crucial.

Change in society is already slower, but the wider market is already demanding more of businesses when it comes to sustainable operations. People want to protect the planet, as cynical as reports might seem in the news. Even organizations and businesses are trying to influence change in the wider market. The ‘DRIVE Sustainability’ initiative has been supported by many auto manufacturers, for instance. That involves a direct change in the automotive supply chain. But we don’t have to leave it up to these organizations to exchange change alone. If we want to speed up the process and lessen the damage to our planet then we need to make our voices heard. Businesses care about the things that are important to their customers.
