If you’ve had the chance to read the title, then you already know what I’ll be talking about today. And yes, I’m very excited about it!

You no longer have to venture all the way to Mississauga to buy quality Halal meat, since Paramount just launched it’s newest butcher shop in Toronto, at Yonge and Eglinton. It’s an elegantly presented butcher shop that goes above and beyond to meet it’s customers’ needs. I was really taken aback at how pleasant everybody was and how enjoyable the overall experience was. When I was younger, going with my parents to the Halal butcher shop meant dragging myself to a place that smelt funny – and that’s no longer the case.

All the cuts of meat are exciting to look at (if you’re a meat lover like myself) because they’re so fresh. And you might expect the prices to be a lot more expensive than your average butcher, but they’re really not. If you’re comparing prices to what’s convenient at the grocery store, you’re getting a better bang for your buck when you end up shopping at a butcher shop.

And the best part? They have a Himalayan salt wall aging room that you can store cuts of meat to dry age. Dry aging your meat causes the enzymes naturally present in the meat to break down the muscle tissue, resulting in improved texture and flavour. It’s an awesome addition to an already exciting shop!

It’s a valuable and exciting place to go to not only to pick up your favourite meats, but also your favourite Arabic groceries. I experienced a whole lot of nostalgia when I was browsing their grocery isles, and ended up picking up a lot more than I had initially intended. Some of my favourite Arabic groceries that are worth trying from here are: labneh, olives, pickled turnips and rose water.
