The Iconic Return of The Ford Mustang Bullitt | CIAS

The reason why I love the annual auto show so much? Simple. Getting to see new and exciting cars.

I’ve always been a car enthusiast, and as someone who’s a big fan of supercars, I was taken aback by the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt this year. Yes, it’s way out of my budget, but I couldn’t help but appreciate everything about this marvelous cult-classic update. 50 years ago, Steve McQueen immortalized the original 1968 Ford Mustang Bullitt in the popular film ‘Bullitt’, which the new car pays an astounding tribute to.

What’s so special about the ‘Bullitt’ Mustang?

Beyond the salute to the movie and the classic car, the 2019 Mustang Bullitt packs an upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine with 475 horsepower, 420 lb.-ft of torque, and a top speed of 262km/h (whereas the Mustang GT sits at 249 km/h). That’s performance and style packed into one beautiful car.

To keep things in line with the film classic, the new Bullitt only comes in a manual transmission (with the Bullitt logo on the white cue ball style shifter). It’s got a whole lot of other bells and whistles such as the Bullitt electronics package (navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, upgraded sound system, and blind spot info system), MagneRide® semi-active suspension system (which optimizes driving performance), and RECARO® black leather-trimmed seats.

It also boasts the classic Dark Highland Green colour (comes in one additional exterior colour), which is the same as the film classic. Ultimately, It’s “effortlessly cool [and stylish]”, just like Steve McQueen himself, says Darrell Behmer, Mustang’s Chief designer. “As a designer, it’s my favorite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool.”

Final Thoughts

The attitude and boldness of the Mustang Bullitt really make it stand out as one of Ford’s limited-edition models. It’s a car that has a very nice silhouette and iscreams ‘badass’ upon first glance, so it really does live up to the intended attitude. I obviously haven’t had the chance to take it for a ride, but I hope to do so in the near future, to share what it’s really like getting the Bullitt experience.

In the mean time, you can watch me drift around in a comical trailer that I did at the CIAS. Ford whipped up a cool little video, featuring myself as the driver of Bullitt. I can’t wait to do this in real life!

(just kidding)
