Spring is upon us, and dressing for the weather can be difficult at times – however, for the most part it’s pretty easy. Light layering or a light coat usually do the trick, but one of my favourite things about Spring fashion is how much colour you can incorporate into your looks and get away with it.

This means that you can stick to essentials and staples that you’re usually comfortable with, while adding some new colours. Not only does that make your outfits pop, but it also allows you to try new combinations, while having a bit of fun!

I decided to take a trip down to Dixie Outlet Mall again to pick out a fun look for Spring, without breaking the bank. They have a great selection of well known retailers that offer really competitive prices, so you really can’t go wrong. The look I had in mind was simple, casual and fun, as well as something that could ultimately be used for more outfits down the road (it’s always a good idea to keep versatility in mind). My rationale with shopping is how much can I mix and match a piece?

The first item I picked out was a Tommy Hilfiger sweater for only $19 (originally $65). The fun orange colour caught my attention right away. Although I have worked with lighter shades of orange before, this bold tone was exciting and perfect to try with other neutrals. Besides, $19 is a steal!

I paired that with a perfect pair of chinos that I picked up from Winners. I’m a sucker for good chinos that fit well and look great, and hey $29 for a pair of Dockers wasn’t so bad (originally $60). The beige colour works great with any look, and it’s a good staple to have for casual looks or even more dressed up outfits.

Finally, I opted for a classic trucker jacket from Levi’s. It’s a classic staple that never goes out of style, and the fact that it was on sale for $99 (originally $168) made my decision a lot easier. Although I do own another Levi’s denim jacket, it doesn’t hurt to have another quality piece lying around to cycle between washing cycles. It’s one of those garments that will age well for the next few years, and can eventually become a hand me down.
