Practicing Proactive Wellness at Home

We’re getting to a point now where days are shorter and nights are longer. And with the pandemic at play, we spend more time at home than we used to.

That equates to reduced exposure to sunlight and less exercise – which can affect us in many ways – such as having lower energy, a vitamin D deficiency, and much more. So it’s important that we continue to be proactive about our physical and mental well being.

One of the things that’s helped me over the last few months, is setting aside time for myself. Whether that’s taking some time to meditate and reflect – or just sitting back to enjoy a book, it really helps to make that small bit of effort. After all, you are investing in future self by doing so.

I’ve noticed that making the time for proactive wellness and self-care (among other good habits, of course) has really helped build my resilience throughout this unpredictable year. It also allows me to prepare myself for any obstacle that might come up (at work and personal life), no matter how unsurmountable it may seem at first.

To make things a little bit easier on myself, I’ve also incorporated a few products over the past while that have helped make some of my habits much easier to stick to. They may not seem like things that have a huge impact at first, but they have helped make my life easier over time.

Philips Smart Sleep and Wake Up Light

Sleep is important, we all know that. But getting enough sleep, going to bed on time and getting up early can feel like a chore at times (for me at least). I’ve started setting a bed time on my phone, where I’m notified ahead of time to start winding down. When I do so, The Philips Sleep and Wake Up light helps me with a bedside wind-down program (light guided breathing techniques), which allows me to relax before I fall asleep. I also have been waking up more pleasantly because of the nature sounds and personalized sunrise simulation features. It isn’t too much when you think about it, but having this futuristic alarm clock around is helpful in many ways if you’re trying to sleep better and feel more rested.

Vital Proteins Collagen Supplements

Diet is also a very important component of proactive well-being, as it helps our bodies stay strong. The modern diet has devolved to some extent, as we don’t always get all the nutrients we need from the food we eat. But supplements exist to help us bridge that gap. Collagen is one of those proteins that our body really benefits from. Taking it on a consistent basis can help us proactively strengthen our bodies, whether we exercise often or not. I recently wrote an article about these products (if you’d like to read more here) and I’m bringing them up here again because they’ve been a great addition to my routine.

Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean Smart

It goes without saying – dental health is just as important as the above. Not only does it help with confidence and feeling great, but it’s crucial to live a holistic healthy life. For a long time, I thought a toothbrush was just a toothbrush. And it is, for the most part – but what if your tooth brush could actually help you brush more efficiently? Well that’s the case here! Since I’ve begun to use this brilliant gadget (it’s a little more than a toothbrush, seriously), I’ve started to identify areas of improvement with this usually mindless routine. It can be tough to justify the cost of the brush at first, but it’s a great addition that will help you practice great dental hygiene without much effort.

Regardless of what works best for you, I highly encourage you to take some time to identify what your body could use more of. Everybody is different in their own ways (when it comes to self-care), but we’re all human – so that means we could all use a bit more of that proactive well-being-goodness. Because after all: taking care of our bodies simply allows us to be the best versions of ourselves.
